A good tool can make all the difference for a site’s SEO campaign but many of the industry’s top tools come with a hefty price tag. Some of the most common questions during our free digital marketing consultation sessions are about finding tools that are affordable for companies on a smaller digital marketing budget. That’s why we created a roundup of our seven favorite SEO tools. All of these tools are fast, free, and easy-to-use. We hope you find one (or five) that can help you work better.
1. Google PageSpeed Insights
You can use Google PageSpeed Insights to check the speed and usability of your website on multiple devices. All you have to do is enter a URL and it will test the loading time and performance for desktop and mobile. It will also find opportunities for your site to improve. Our favorite part: they include a user experience score for mobile results, grading things like tap targets and font sizes.
2. Moz Local Listing Score
Moz Local Listing Score lets you see how your local business looks online. They crunch data from more than 10 different sources (think Google, Yelp, Facebook) to score how your brick-and-mortar business appears online. The results don’t leave you hanging – they come fully equipped with actionable fixes for inconsistent or incomplete listings.
3. Keywordtool.io
Need keyword ideas? Keywordtool.io has your back. It generates hundreds of keyword ideas based on a single word. Simply enter a keyword, and the Keyword Tool returns a bunch of long-tail keyword options and common questions asked. You’ll thank us for the next time you go to do keyword research.
4. Google Analytics
An absolute must-have for any website, Google Analytics can help with SEO too. Use it to get web stats and search insights. It tracks essentially every inch of traffic your website gets. It also shows keyword insights on what terms people use to land on your pages. Not sure how to get this data? You can find it under Acquisition > Search Console > Queries or Acquisition > Campaigns > Organic Keywords.
5. Google Search Console & Bing Webmaster Tools
Everyone needs website analysis, alerts, and error reports. Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools do just that. They give you a taste of what the top two search engines think of your site. It will show you any bugs, alerts, or indexing issues.
6. Ahrefs’ Backlink Checker
Need a comprehensive link analysis? Ahrefs’ Backlink Checker has you covered. Their free version shows the top 100 backlinks to any website or URL. They also show the total number of backlinks and referring domains, Domain Rating, and URL Rating. Try pasting in your competitors’ website for some instant link opportunities.
